About Me
I’m originally from a small town in Connecticut. In high school, I was the go-to friend to tell problems to, a role that I was honored to have, and I thoroughly enjoyed. This motivated me to seek out a career where I could listen to, support, and encourage others, which I found in the field of psychotherapy. I moved to Texas in 2013 to go to grad school and explore a new place. I lived in Austin for ten years before deciding to move back to Connecticut to be closer to family. I love gardening and painting, both of which I am slowly getting better at. These hobbies have definitely helped me learn how to be okay with messing things up! Being afraid to make a mistake is something I’ve had to work on, and I love being able to help others work on it too.
I’ve worked with a lot of families over the years, and I understand how much parents want their kids to grow up into happy, fulfilled, ambitious adults that can accomplish anything they set their minds to. Getting to this future is not an easy road though. Things are constantly changing for them - schools, friendships, relationships, responsibilities, bodies, and especially emotions. It’s easy to see how this can be overwhelming. I love helping kids and teens process these kinds of changes along with the stress and intense emotions that often follow. I like to use art, games, and humor in my work. By exploring emotions, values, priorities, and more I can help your child feel in control again. Contact me if you’d like to learn more about how we can work together to support your child.
I earned my Master’s of Counseling from St. Edward’s University in Austin, Texas. I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Human Development & Family Studies from the University of Connecticut in Storrs, Connecticut.
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapy Therapist (LMFT) in the state of Texas (License Number 202979) and in Connecticut (License Number 3218) under my full name, Kathleen Sammann. Contrary to what my license is titled, I do not offer couples counseling or ongoing family therapy sessions (I will incorporate family sessions into our work if appropriate).
Currently, I am located in Connecticut. I am still licensed in Texas but not physically located in the state anymore.
